Originally established as a special conference of the Pennsylvania Ministerium in 1812, the Joint Synod petitioned the ministerium to form an independent body in 1817, and in 1818 the first general conference of the synod was held in Somerset, Ohio. Christ Lutheran Church was organized on June 4, 1889 with ten voting members, and became a member of the Joint Synod of Ohio on July 1, 1908. Dedication of the first church occurred on November 18, 1889. In 1923 a basement was built under the church and rededication services were held. The first parsonage was built and consecrated in 1903.
